Under the sun or under the clouds, mixing with water and winds, their [the plants’] life is an endless cosmic contemplation, one that does not distinguish between objects and substances or to put differently, one that accepts all their nuances to the point of melting with the world, to the point of coinciding with its very substance.

Plant Babes is a loose group of Berlin-based dance artists who have come together out of the need to live new forms of solidarity in collaboration with plants.

The group’s first gathering took place in January 2024 in Przystawy, Poland, where we gathered to exchange our respective plant-related practices. Our main goal was to outline a shared journey around questions of collective artistic research rooted in the ‘planthroposcene’, an ambitious vision by Natasha Myers that calls for “vegetalizing human sensorium” and seeking new allies in plants.
Our aim is to support each other in our interests by deepening our practices of plant-somatics, eco-somatics, dance, place-making and critical inquiries of sustainability. We wish for this group to be porous and expandable, welcoming people, initiatives or places that resonate with Plant Babe’s interests. The current members are Akseli Aittomäki, Joske Beckers, Michela Filzi, Aaron Lang, Dorota Michalak and Magdalena Meindl.
Currently we are developing a series of workshops that focus on somatic approaches in relation to plants, as well as drafting other exciting projects.
