‘infinity rug‘ is a platform where sound, collective learning and caring come together to create a new paradigm of togetherness for the queer, trans and BIPOC community.
The beauty of the project is that it offers a format that can be shaped by the artists involved in its creation. We have been working in a research group for a process in 2023 with marum, Lou Drago, Keira Sinclair and Aaron Lang from the core team, Mmakgosi Kgabi as our frequent collaborator, movement artist Rita Mazza and collaborator Jules Fricker. We share different practices of embodiment, sound and collective perception to tune into bodily forms of listening as opposed to listening with the ear. In addition to sharing our knowledge, we invite external experts to workshops with hosts such as Francesco Spaggiari, sound artist and teacher, organiser of the experimental sound festival Euphonia.
Our work with infinity rug explores the vulnerability and trust required to rest or fall asleep in the presence of strangers. Dream experts oxi peng and Yen Chun Lin have hosted an overnight workshop asking how we can share these dreams non-verbally, regardless of our hearing abilities.
Aaron is part of the team since 2022, co-developing the movement practices as well as hosting and performing during the seances.
In 2022 ‘infinity rug’ was funded by Draussenstadt and in 2023 by Berliner Projektfonds Urbane Praxis.
